We met at Rice University's graduate student orientation in August of 2016. We discussed our favorite books and survivalist interests, and really hit it off!
We spent the next year and a quarter as friends going on all kinds of weekend adventures! Highlights include accidental beautyberry caramel, learning first aid, playing Dungeons & Dragons games with friends, doing our civic duty by voting, surviving Hurricane Harvey, and teaching Kyle how to eat onions.
On November 12, 2017, Paz asked Kyle how he would feel about their relationship being less strictly platonic. Kyle had been thinking of asking her something similar and said yes!
Highlights while dating include Kyle getting Paz a stuffed goat for "get your girlfriend a goat month," starting the tradition of birthday week (June 10 – June 14), going blueberry picking, visiting the synchronous fireflies in Oak Ridge Tennessee, growing an indoor forest, fainting together while donating blood at Dragon Con, going to the Texas Renaissance Fair, snow skiing together, visiting Laughing Frog Farm, Kyle teaching Paz to drive, and moving in together.
On September 1st, 2019, at their second Dragon Con together, Paz accompanied Kyle to the blood donation recovery room (after Kyle successfully gave blood without fainting, this time). Once assured Kyle was fully recovered and of sound mind, Paz popped the question with a hand braided embroidery thread ring with their two favorite colors, purple and orange. Kyle had also been plotting to propose within the year himself, so he said yes!
We are excited to start our new chapter in life on March 14th!
